We knew the day would come and the day happened to be May 27th, 2015 when the first light rail train headed into downtown Mesa.
“The Valley Metro Light Rail Test Train was walked from Sycamore Street Station to Mesa Drive and back on the newly completed tracks down Main Street, Downtown Mesa, Arizona and ushered in a long-awaited new era in our hometown downtown!”
There was a ton of excitement from downtown Mesa residents, business owners, politicians and employees to see the first glimpse of what the near future holds for this part of town. Facebook and Twitter blew up with the news of the train being tested. The arrival of the first train had been pretty much kept a secret from much of the public as this was not an official grand opening or the start of normal service. Rumor has it that service could be sooner than expected and with the looks of yesterday’s test run, it appears that things are moving along very nicely for the opening of the light rail system in downtown Mesa.
Personally, I am pretty excited to see so many of the positive changes coming to the area and am very much looking forward to train service in Mesa.
From the groundbreaking ceremony in May of 2012 to today, there have been a LOT of changes to the area. For many of the people that are living in the area, the excitement is building. They can’t wait for this new chapter to unfold. Here are a few tweets from last night. Take a look and give these people a follow, as there will be a LOT more info about the new Mesa light rail extension coming soon!
Congrats to all involved. Keep “rockin’ the Rail Life!”
