ASU vs Notre Dame – Top 5 Places To Go On Game Day

November 7, 2014 by Nick Bastian Leave a Comment

ASU plays Notre Dame this weekend at Sun Devil stadium. This sold out game has Sun Devil fans coming from all over the state and from all over the country. While many of us loyal ASU fans are familiar with all of the changes happening near Sun Devil stadium, many people who may be from out of town or may not attend every game are looking for some game day fun. If you are a Notre Dame fan, go ahead and click off of this page right now. This day is not going to be fun for you. Just stay in your hotel and begin your sulking right now.

For Sun Devil fans, we’ve put together a list of some cool new spots and a couple of tried and true places that are tough to beat. Obviously, the Mill Avenue district has a TON of awesome choices, but we think these are certainly worth a look. ( see map at the bottom of this page )

Top 5 Places for ASU Fans on Game Day:

5: Revo Pizzabar – Since the light rail line is the easiest way to get around in downtown Tempe on game day, we’ll start with one of the newest and closest places to the light rail station at Sun Devil stadium. Revo Pizzabar has some great grub and plenty of options for you to wet your whistle. Local brews, select wines, cocktails and some pretty tasty coffee, if the need arises. They are located right there at the transit center ( 200 E 5th St ) so all you have to do is step off of the train and get ready for fun. Pizza and beer on game day… Not a very tough sell, right?

4. Orange Table – Another pretty new addition to the area near Sun Devil stadium is the Orange Table. Not a huge place but they have some really good food and the owners are HUGE Sun Devil fans. They’ve recently expanded their bar, and they’ve got some really good breakfast items ( Bloody Mary, anyone? ) for people smart enough to be heading downtown early on Saturday. With a 1:30 kickoff for the game, you might as well come down in the morning and hang out with all of us crazed ASU football fans. Orange Table is located on the SE corner of 7th St and Forest. VERY close to the stadium.

3. Postino – Wait, you mean you didn’t know they opened Postino on College Avenue? You really need to get out more often! It’s basically on campus in the old ASU art annex building at 6th street and College, a block from the stadium. They have an awesome patio, some really great food and will be a very popular choice for the “wine me and dine me” Sun Devil fans on game day. They open at 9am on Saturdays which should give football fans enough time to get their game face on by kickoff. At 11am, they start the $5 wine by the glass and pitcher of beer special. Just sayin…

2. Mad Hatter Brew Pub – So, you want to get a little crazy before, during and after the game? The Mad Hatter Brew Pub is the closest place to the stadium to get your party face on and stumble  walk to the game. They are at 5th and College, right across from the stadium. The music is cranking, the beer is flowing and the streets are blocked off for some serious celebration. Yeah, they’ve got decent bar grub, but the real reason to come here on game day isn’t for their culinary delights. It’s all about the beer. And booze. Maybe a Jager shot, or two.

1. Monti’s La Casa Vieja – Do you realize that this is the LAST home football game that the famed Monti’s will be open for business? Yes, Monti’s is closing after decades of serving Sun Devil fans at Mill Avenue and Rio Salado. The party ends on November 17th, and I guarantee the place will be packed on game day as thousands have been flocking to this Tempe landmark sine the news broke that they will soon be closing. For Monti’s, take the light rail to Mill and 3rd St and head north a block. Enjoy the patio bar at Tempe’s Front Porch or head in to the old historic bar for one last Sun Devil salute for old times sake.

Bonus Pick: RailGating with RailLife.com and Smokin’ Aces BBQ!

So, maybe a restaurant or bar isn’t exactly what you are looking for? You’re a Sun Devil fan and you are looking for an awesome tailgating experience. ( Actually, we call it RailGating. ) The best choice just might be to join us in the Campus Corner parking lot for an awesome Maroon and Gold party. All you have to do is get yourself to our party and anything you need will be right there. Campus Corner sells soda, beer, coffee, snacks and… just about anything you would ever need for the ultimate tailgate party!! We’ll even have coolers and ice that you can use, because we’re cool like that. We have room for a LOT of ASU fans! No green allowed.

If you are a Sun Devil fan, you are welcome to join us for an awesome day of food, football and fun. More info about our party can be found here.

Here’s a map of the downtown Tempe area with a TON of great restaurant and bar choices for you to enjoy on game day.
