So, Bob Parsons of GoDaddy appears to be the proud new owner of Tempe’s Centerpoint on Mill development located NW of Mill Avenue and University. Bob and some of his friend$ have paid $38 million for a pretty prime corner. Apparently, the dude has been on a bit of a real estate shopping spree since he cashed in some of his GoDaddy Monopoly money / stock options.
In the past couple of years, “Parsons has been on a buying spree of Valley real estate, so far scooping up more than $163 million worth of commercial properties.” – PHX Business Journal
Bob’s not alone in having his eye on the area as there seems to be a LOT of interest in the downtown Tempe these days. A bunch of students with money burning a hole in their pockets, a good transit system with Orbit, light rail and busses in the area, many different housing types, and tons of activities have developers flocking. Hopefully, we’re not looking at too much of a good thing.
Heck, now when people talk about development dollars near downtown Tempe it’s being measured in billions instead of just millions. New hotel(s), the Marina Heights project, another tower being built at Hayden Ferry, the US Olympic team developments, more luxury high rise buildings scheduled , ASU is expanding ( as always ) and new restaurants / businesses seem to be announced regularly. Maybe Bob just wanted to join the crowd?
I wonder if he can get Danica to do some laps around the Mill Avenue loop in the GoDaddy car for the grand opening of the new movie theater at Centerpoint? That would be cool.
