Happy New Year! New Year’s Eve is a LOT of fun for all and the light rail line is a great way for tens of thousands of people to go out and celebrate.
Dozens of big parties are happening along the line and people can have METRO drive them all night long.
The two biggest areas of light rail fun on New Year’s Eve are downtown Phoenix and the Mill Avenue District in Tempe. The maps below will show you some of the places and areas where many will be celebrating tonight.

In Tempe, the annual Tempe Block Party is always a huge draw. There will be some family friendly events from 6-9pm with fireworks shows at 9pm and again at midnight. There will be many New Year’s Eve parties on Mill and two different block parties within the area. 4th Street will have a ton of activity, and of course the multi-bar block party on 6th Street will have their party hats on.

For those of you riding the trains for the first time, keep in mind that a normal light rail fair is just $3.50 for unlimited use for the “transit day.” Tonight, the trains run until 2am. The park and ride lots are free, but overnight parking is not allowed.
Looking back at 2012, we are thankful for all of the fun we have had this year. Transit ridership in Arizona continues to see growth and people are enjoying the convenience of the Rail Life lifestyle. Here’s to a healthy and happy 2013. It’s going to be another great year!
