It’s really no big secret that people in and around the city of Tempe know how to party. From the (in)famous college scene on Mill Avenue, the blowouts at Tempe Beach Park and so much more. In addition to great parties, people around here tend to love their community and the Local First attitude of making a difference. For months, there has been a lot of talk about the revitalization efforts at the Mill. Tonight, the city of Tempe will be buzzing with the the culmination of a ton of great work by some very cool people.
Music – Fun – Food – Friends – History
Don’t you dare miss the grand re-opening of the Hayden Flour Mill from 5-10PM. Approximately 50 restaurants, retail, service businesses, and non-profit organizations will host booths at the event in the area adjacent to the Hayden Flour Mill in the north parking lot of Tempe Mission Palms Hotel on Mill Avenue near Third Street. ( right across from the Mill Avenue light rail station! )
Now that the building has been spruced up a bit, the grounds are going to be used as a venue for special events and a cool kind of community gathering space. The new venue is called the Green at Hayden Flour Mill, and it features shaded areas for picnicking, a beautiful grass lawn, a stage for plays / bands, and some very cool interpretive plaques featuring some of the history of the mill, silos and surrounding area.
So, bring your lawn chairs and beach blankets to the lawn at the Hayden Flour Mill for tonight’s dedication of the mill as a special event space. Enjoy three awesome bands and a special dedication ceremony. There will even be tours of the mill for people to get an even better feel for this historic site. More info can be found on the Hayden Flour Mill Facebook page!
“Hayden Flour Mill is a relic of our agricultural past, when Tempe was a small town surrounded by miles of farmland and anchored, economically, by the processing and marketing of grain, cotton, fruit, vegetable, and dairy products.” – City of Tempe
