Remember back in March of 2009 when there was a meeting to talk about the Northwest light rail extension? Yeah, I didn’t really think you did. Mainly because, by the time they were to begin construction somewhere around August of 2009, the wheels had fallen off of the money wagon. Back in June of this year we learned that the project was back on track and will be taking light rail service farther north on 19th Avenue to eventually end at the area near Interstate 17 freeway and Dunlap Avenue.
This is phase I of a 3.2-mile extension running north from the current end-of-line at Montebello to Dunlap Avenue and is projected to open in late 2015/early 2016.
For more details, visit the Northwest Extension page at ValleyMetro.org. If you want even MORE information or want to talk to METRO about the route, construction status or anything else, join them at their public forum on September 18th.
Northwest Extension Public Meeting

Construction of this next phase could begin early next year. The extension includes three light rail stations, a park-and-ride lot and convenient bus connections at Bethany Home Road, Glendale and Northern Avenues. The extension is said to serve nearly 20,000 residents, more than 20,000 employees and nearly 10,000 housing units.
