The August 2012 METRO light rail ridership numbers are out and they show that high temperatures don’t exactly keep all of us from leaving the house in August. While ASU students were away last month, we saw 982,776 boardings. This month, METRO is reporting 1,166,156 which is a 3.7% increase over August of 2011.
August 2012 ridership numbers look like this:

Avg. Weekday Boardings: 42,054 vs 34,168 in July:
Avg Saturday Boardings: 28,592 vs 27,935 in July:
Avg Sunday / Holiday Boardings: 21,138 vs 25,585 in July:
The weekday numbers in August were nearly 8,000 per day greater than July which shows that the students are riding in pretty big numbers. As the weather cools and we come into the seasons of outdoor festivals, holiday travel, sporting events and other big rail draws, it will be interesting to see how many boardings occur each month.
