A little bit of Van Halen is pretty hard to resist. Sure, it has been about 20 years since they were one of the best shows on the planet, but their music is still good enough to bring some of us back to the good ol’ days…
This Saturday, Diamond Dave and the Van Halen crew will play US Airways Center in Phoenix. While their new tunes will be played, you know it’s the classics like Running with the Devil, Jamie’s Cryin, Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love, Ice Cream Man, Everybody Wants Some, Unchained, And the Cradle Will Rock, Beautiful Girls, Panama, Hot for Teacher and others that people want to hear.
While the guys may not be “as good as they once was”, the show is hard to resist for any self respecting head banger.
So, if you are heading to the show, what better way is there to get to the US Airways Center than to hop on the light rail and have them take you there, for FREE? Seriously. All events at the US Airways Center qualify as FREE Rail Ride events.
“Through The Rail Ride Event, METRO will recognize any US Airways Center event ticket as valid light rail fare on the day of the event, for four hours prior to the start of the event, through the end of the transit day.”
Of course, you will want to know about some great places to hang out before and after the show, right? Our handy little “light rail drinks” map might give you a few ideas of where to start out.
Enjoy the concert and don’t forget about the sweet offer from METRO and US Airways to let you ride for free with your paid ticket to any event at the arena. You park for free and ride for free, what’s not to love about that?
Um, one more thing… If you don’t have a ticket to see Van Halen and are not going to the arena, you don’t ride for free. The good news? It’s still a deal. An all day light rail pass will only cost most of you $3.50.
If you decide to check out Van Halen at US Airways Center, I am willing to bet you will have a great time, “Rockin’ the Rail Life!”

Remember, the light rail line is “split” in Downtown Phoenix. You have different East and West bound stops for Us Airways Center. 3rd and Jefferson and 3rd and Washington are good places to get on and off for the arena. Easy as can be…
