I got a new bike about a year ago and I really enjoy riding it. I’m not a hard core bike dude but I like to ride it to the store, have taken it to my office a few times, dozens of trips to the park with my kids, etc. Often, I ride along the canal in the mornings to clear my head and to keep this old ticker of mine ticking.
Back in July, I went to a conference in San Francisco and shot this photo while walking down the street early one morning. The amount of people riding bikes to work was impressive, to me.
Here in the Valley, I have noticed a greater awareness for urban living and of people getting around on bikes and public transportation over the past few years. Ironically, two people that have been friends of biking, transportation, and urban planning around here have moved away from the Phoenix area, but their impact continues on. ( Yes, I’m talking to you Yuri Artibise and Tony Arranaga. ) Thankfully, we have a LOT of other people continuing to raise awareness.
While I as out this morning, it was great to feel a bit of coolness in the air instead of the feeling of a heated furnace that has been around for a while. Living in a bike friendly community is cool, even when it’s hot…
Remember, Rail Life has a Phoenix Light Rail Group on Flickr. Basically, we want to share some of our pictures from the community and allow people to add their pics (or videos), as well. These can be light rail related, but we also want pics or videos of your favorite spot, restaurant, sports team, community, event etc.
