So, it looks like we are ready for All Star weekend. In fact, the party has begun and the list of All Star activities is quite impressive.
Downtown Phoenix activities will be cranking today through the entire All Star week. Many of the locals are glad to have such a large focus on our city. The Convention Center will be rockin’ and Chase Field is sure to be a big hit with baseball fans for the big game.
The list of activities below was taken from MLB.com,
- July 8-12
- Major League Baseball All-Star FanFest at Phoenix Convention Center
- July 10
- Taco Bell All-Star Sunday at Chase Field featuring: XM All-Star Futures Game, 6 p.m. ET, and Taco Bell All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball Game, approximately 9:30 ET
- July 11
- Gatorade All-Star Workout Day at Chase Field featuring: State Farm Home Run Derby, 8 ET
- July 12
- 82nd MLB All-Star Game at Chase Field, 8 ET
Of course, METRO expects to have large numbers of people riding the rails to and from the activities. If you are new to our town, welcome! Please know that there are a LOT of great activities to choose from. You also have a ton of great choices when it comes to getting around Phoenix via our light rail system. If you are staying in a hotel along the line, you might not even need to rent a car. If you do have a car, remember that the METRO Park and Ride lots are FREE of charge.
So, what are 3 tips for fans heading to the All Star Game and festivities?
1. Buy an all day pass. For just $3.50 ( other passes are available ) you can ride all day. Yep, it’s a pretty good deal. Kids 5 and under ride FREE.
2. Follow the MLB All Star updates on Twitter.
3. Know your way around. We have a few maps that will help you have fun. There is a new smart phone app for people to try. Check it out here. ( I’ve not tried it, yet. )
** Bonus Tip!** Remember, the light rail line is “split” in Downtown Phoenix. You have different East and West bound stops for Chase Field and for the Phoenix Convention Center. See these tips on getting to Chase Field via METRO light rail!
For more tips and updates you can check out the Downtown Phoenix Journal and DowntownPhoenix.com among several others.
The RailLife Twitter and Facebook pages will try to keep up with the cool things going on. There is also a Twitter hashtag of #ASG that has great info. Take a look! 🙂
The map below shows the area surrounding the Convention Center and Chase Field. Remember that there are a LOT of things to do along the line. We have a bunch of awesome places to grab some coffee or a beer, or two. Head up Central Avenue or over to Mill Avenue in Tempe. Take a look around our city. If you like it, we hope you will stick around!
