It’s probably no big secret that I love, love, love what they are doing at the Phoenix Public market. The work, the love, the blood, sweat and tears that Cindy Gentry and so many other people have put into the market continues to impress and inspire MANY people. Last night, I got to meet with Cindy and with Natalie Morris to discuss some of the MANY cool things happening there, as well as some cool things that are coming soon. ( Watch for a super-cool announcement coming in the next week or so! ) One thing we discussed is an event being held this evening. ( Sorry for the short notice. ) They are having a party! It’s a Truck Farm Garden Contest Planting Party!
From the Facebook invite for tonight’s Truck Farm party at the Phoenix Public Market we get this info:
“Join thousands of other kids across the country as they plant seeds in the most creative, most wacky places they can think of. Why? Because its fun and rewarding to grow your own fresh food- even if you don’t have any land.
As a part of the national fleet of Truck Farms campaign, participate in our local planting party and get your kids’ submission in for the contest- to be judged by Michael Pollan and Alice Waters to win cool prizes!
Here’s how:
You: For every kid you bring, provide a planting medium. Something funky, something creative- it can be anything and it should be awesome! It can be as simple as a used water bottle or as crazy as an old printer!
Us: We’ll provide everything else! We’ve got the tools, seeds and water and sunshine and we’re ready to help! We’ll also take submission photos and entries on-site!
Get ready to get dirty and help kids in planting their own seeds! No age restrictions apply!”
So, come hang out at the Market tonight. The planting will take place from 4-8pm. As a reminder, seeds and soil will be provided, people are encouraged to bring something cool to plant them in.
Come learn more about the Truck Farm film and local gardening while hanging out with some great people. Heck, I’m always surprised at how many people don’t know how many cool things are going on at the Market. It’s a great place to shop, to have coffee, to enjoy great food and have a happy hour while enjoying some awesome local beer and wine.
I found this cool video of an urban garden. Planting seeds with little kids ( or with adults ) can obviously be a LOT of fun!
See you tonight at the Phoenix Public Market! 14 E Pierce St which is located at the NE Corner of Central Avenue & Pierce Street.
My kids and I will be “taking a train ride” to the market for the seed planting this evening. They are SUPER excited! 🙂
