While December 2011 boardings were shy of the 1 million mark, the January numbers rebounded quite well with a total of 1,074,803. Daily, weekend / holiday numbers were all up over the previous month. Positive numbers and growing ridership is almost getting boring, will we see a slowdown soon? Not likely. Gas prices continue to rise and that might get more people looking at public transportation as a way to save a few bucks.
Total ridership numbers look like this:
Total Boardings for January: 1,074,803 vs 959,340 in December:
Avg. Weekday Boardings: 39552 vs 34213 in December
Avg Saturday Boardings: 30647 vs 29,926 in December
Avg Sunday / Holiday Boardings: 20,270 vs 16,535 in December
According to METRO, January boardings for 2011 were 7.2% higher than January 2010.
It appears that ASU students and recreational riders continue to be a big part of the equation.
