Just a heads up for possible weekend delays near Central Station. The trains will NOT be stopping at Central Station for a period of time in the morning. The light rail map below shows the area where work is being done and the stations they are talking about. You will want to use the other nearby stations.
From a METRO rider alert we learn:
On the morning of Dec. 11, there will be a helicopter lift involving the Freeport-McMoRan Center at 333 N. Central Ave. (northeast corner of Central at Van Buren). The purpose of the air lift is to install items such as air conditioning units and water storage tanks on the roof of the building.
The City of Phoenix has announced that all streets in a 10-square-block area will have hard closures while the event is in progress. Central Station will be entirely closed. The light rail trains will be running but will not stop at Central Station.”
And from today’s e-mail release:
Light rail stations at Central Station closed due to area construction
Saturday, December 11
Trains will not stop at Central Station – Van Buren/Central and Van Buren/1st Avenue stations – between 5 a.m. and 11 a.m.* this Saturday, Dec. 11, due to construction on a neighboring building. Riders are asked to use Washington/Central Avenue or Jefferson/1st Avenue station to board/de-board.
Westbound service delays could also result. Your patience is greatly appreciated.
