The 3rd annual Scott Kelby Worldwide Photo Walk is coming to town. In Phoenix and Tempe, the photo walk will be rockin’ the light rail! What makes this photo walk different than the ones happening from Paris to New York to Germany? This one is going to utilize our light rail system to get to a bunch of cool places. The deal is, they will meet at the light rail station at Mill and 3rd Street in Tempe on Saturday, July 24th at 4:00 PM. From there, you will hit several places along the line and end up some place close to a light rail station at approximately 8 PM to hang out with the participants, share photos and have some fun. ( More details on the meeting place for after the photo walk will be available soon )
While the name and the “worldwideness” might sound pretty professional and even a little intimidating for “non-photogs,” I just spoke with the local event organizer, Mark Wallace of Snapfactory, and he assured me that ALL are invited. Basically, if you like to take pictures and want to hang out with others that like to do so, this light rail photo walk is for you.
“It’s not a workshop, it’s a social gathering” said Mark. We also talked about my lack of photography skills and lack of super cool equipment. Mark assured me it won’t matter. Heck, “a phone camera will work” if that is what people prefer. To be sure, there will be some real photographers, but I could tell by talking to Mark and learning more about this event that it is going to be a lot of fun.
From the Worldwide Photowalk site we got the following info:
Join Mark Wallace of Snapfactory for this photowalk starting on Mill Ave in Tempe. Once we’ve shot on Mill Ave we’ll be riding the (air conditioned) Light Rail to downtown Phoenix for additional stops close to Chase Field, the Public Library (air conditioned) and the Phoenix Art Museum. All walkers will need to bring fare for the Light Rail ($3.50 per person). Anyone wanting to shoot inside the Art Museum will need to bring money for Admission. Mark will be on hand to answer questions about photography and provide tips during the walk. Please wear sunscreen and bring a bottle of water!
In addition to taking photos and hanging out with a bunch of new friends, people will have a chance to win some really cool prizes. For the scoop, take a look at this video of Mark giving us the details.
If you are new to riding the light rail and will be joining the walk, the plan is pretty simple. You will want to purchase a light rail pass for $3.50. This will give you unlimited use of the METRO for the day. There is parking in Tempe near the Mill Avenue light rail station or you can leave your car at one of the free park and ride lots before meeting up with everyone in Tempe.
