Last month’s record light rail ridership numbers were pretty impressive in many ways. Highest month, highest day etc etc. The year over year numbers look strong and the Disneyland effect has never really been an issue. Strong demand when the weather was GREAT and the Diamondbacks began their season along with First Friday crowds that continue to impress helped keep monthly boardings over the one million barrier that seems so important to many.
For May of 2010, the light rail ridership numbers have come down a bit as the total number of boardings fell short of a million for the first time this year. Totals look like this:
Total Boardings for May: 991,999
Avg. Weekday Boardings: 37,267
Avg Saturday Boardings: 28,366
Avg Sunday / Holiday Boardings: 17,472
Year over year for the month, boardings increased by 7% which was a lower increase than the first few months of the year have seen. Most people fully expect the numbers to drop as the weather heats up, ASU students are on break, service cuts take place and people begin their Summer hibernations and vacations.
