Verde Mexican Food in Phoenix is one of those places that is hard NOT to love. Located just a short walk from the Roosevelt light rail station and just North of ASU downtown in a wonderfully revived 1930’s building, it is an area where redevelopment makes a LOT of sense. In this case, the re-development seems to be an instant treasure and the treasure comes in the form of a pretty simple menu of fresh food served just the way I like it.
Many of the downtowners and local food bloggers have been raving about Verde since it’s recent opening, and based on my recent lunch at Verde, they have been spot on. While the history and story of Verde is very cool to know, it is the food and the vibe that recently knocked my socks off. I gotta’ admit, it’s hard for me to pass up red or green chile, and I’m always looking for a place that serves up “home made” quality grub. I tend to be kind of spoiled as my sister-in-law’s mom makes us some of the best chile in the world from her “secret” family recipe.
On a recent trip, I had the Green Chile Pork that comes with beans, rice and tortillas for $7. It’s something everyone should try, probably more than once! Verde also serves breakfast on the weekends until 2pm.
The people at Verde are friendly, the owner proudly talks about his food, his menu, and their desire to serve a fresh, local product that people will enjoy. We all know that people love to try different restaurants near the light rail line – Verde is one that should be on every list! If you live, work or play in downtown Phoenix, be sure to stop by and give em’ a try…
