In Arizona, we are ORANGE. Especially when our beloved Suns make a playoff run as they are doing now. Monday’s game against the Spurs will be a LOT of fun to watch. We all know these two teams have some history, and we all know those stupid history books can be thrown out the window once this next series comes around.
Yeah, the diehards love this team, but so do the “what have you done lately” crowds that will descend upon US Airways Center to watch this team that wasn’t given much of a chance for a large part of this season. A new coach, some new blood, and some old timers ready to quiet their doubters are ready to put a boot to the Spurs.
It’s ok that Arizona always has a few band wagon fans. It’s even ok that a bunch of idiots want to ban PHX for the playoffs. The thing is, most of us that live here know and love this team. Analogies run thick around here. Remember back to circa 2008 when people said no one would ride the light rail?
Guess what… One of the most popular ways to get to a game is via the Metro Bandwagon. People have been jumping on the wagon and heading to sports events since the beginning. Now with playoff fever at a really high pitch and the fact that your Suns ticket gives you a FREE light rail ride to the game, the place is sure to be packed and bleeding Orange for this series and for the one after the Spurs are spanked.
It’s true, buy a ticket to any US Airways Center event and you ride METRO light rail at no additional cost on the day of the event. It’s part of the METRO Rail Ride Event promotion announced last year, and your ticket is good for four hours prior to the game through the end of the transit day.
So, if this is your first rodeo ( Suns game), find yourself a park and ride lot or just jump on your closest light rail station and head down to the arena. Remember, if you are coming from the East Valley, you will want to exit at the 3rd / Washington or the Central and Washington stations and walk a block or so South to the arena, but you will board the 3rd and Jefferson station for your ride home. Switch that if you are coming from the North or West. Check a light rail map if you have questions.
To see what it looks like to roll up to the arena from Phoenix, check out this short video. It rocks. 🙂
This series is gong to be a LOT of fun to watch. Make sure you are on the bandwagon and hold on tight! Go Suns!
Do you know if they will be running the same kind of promotion for Mercury games this summer? Would be pretty awesome if they were!

Hi Kathy,
Yes, I believe it is all ticketed events at US Airways Center. Click on the link in the post that says “METRO Rail Ride Event” for more info.
Thanks!

Wonderful! Knew they had started it back at the finals for the WNBA. Hadn’t realized they were keeping it going until Sept. 2010. Guess who will be riding the rails to Merc games this summer? ME
