It wasn’t long ago that the terms Urban and Walkable were unheard of in the “sprawling” Valley of the Sun. Most people would chuckle upon hearing mention of an “urban” lifestyle and Arizona in the same sentence. While strides are being made with infill development and some cool urban awareness campaigns, Manhattan, we are not.
As we learn more about the patterns of light rail riders in Arizona, we realize that many people are enjoying lifestyle changes and taking advantage of a lot of the fun things to do along the light rail line.
If you have an interest in learning about Transportation and Livable Communities, there will be a public meeting at the Tempe Transportation Center (Don Cassano Community Room) which is located at 200 East 5th Street Tempe, AZ. The Tempe Transportation Center is right next to the light rail stop at Veterans Way / College Ave near Sun Devil Stadium.
From the event invitation:
“Join in the discussion about how your community can use the Smart Growth Scorecard to update its General Plan. Where does arts, culture, heritage, open space, tourism, historic preservation, and other "quality of life" indicators fit into the (transportation planning) scheme of things?”
Event Info:
Date: Wednesday, September 16, 2009
Time: 3:00pm – 5:00pm
Location: Tempe Transportation Center (Don Cassano Community Room)
Street: 200 E. 5th St. Tempe, AZ
I hope to see you there!
The City of Scottsdale needs to step up to the plate and plan for the light rail in Scottsdale! I think it should be on Scottsdale Rd. from the south border up to Carefree Hightway. Thats just my opinion.
