New Transit Book Details Changes to Bus and Light Rail Service

July 19, 2009 by Nick Bastian 2 Comments

Recent bus and light rail news from Metro…

Phoenix, AZ (July 10, 2009)  Stop, look and listen! There may be changes to your bus route beginning Monday, July 27. The new issue of the Valley Metro Transit Book will announce upcoming changes to bus service and an updated schedule for METRO light rail. The entire Transit Book is also available online and can be downloaded at www.valleymetro.org.

More than 30 bus routes in the Valley Metro transit system are experiencing routing and schedule changes. This includes suspension of routes, elimination of some weekday and weekend trips, and route modifications. On or after July 27, passengers should verify their trip online or by calling Customer Service at (602) 253-5000.

“The Transit Book is a 300-page comprehensive resource that our passengers rely on for accurate information about riding transit,” said David A. Boggs, executive director, Valley Metro RPTA. In addition to offering the schedules and maps for more the than 80 bus routes, the Transit Book features information in English and Spanish about fares, fare sales locations, and tips on how to ride the bus or light rail.
The new Transit Book is available online now and at transit centers, libraries and city halls by Monday, July 20.

Valley Metro/RPTA provides eco-friendly public transit options to residents of greater Phoenix and Maricopa County, including a clean-fuel bus fleet, low-emissions light rail,  a bio-diesel Dial-a-Ride fleet, online carpool matching and bus trip mapping, and bicycle and telework assistance.

Funding is provided by local, state and federal revenues; and administered by a board of 15 governments working to improve and regionalize the public transit system. www.ValleyMetro.org

Weekend trips are great especially when you're taking the bus or the light rail. They're both economical, eco-friendly options that more people should take advantage of. Of course, you also need to remember to travel responsibly. One of the details of travelling that people often overlook is also one of the simplest. It's travel insurance. You can get cheap travel insurance easily. Just like you need insurance to protect you from what might happen at home, so too do you need insurance for when you travel. It doesn't matter if you travel to a foreign country or within your own. You need to have insurance.
