Another cool business has recently located at Hayden Ferry just North of the light rail station at 3rd and Mill in Tempe.
Segway of Tempe opened on Friday and offered free test drives on Saturday. People can now take Segway tours of the lake. See their site for details.
Last Wednesday, I got to test out a new Segway before the grand opening and I must admit, it was a lot of fun. I was told they are allowed on the light rail cars (haven’t verified that with Metro yet) and we talked about how fun it would be for people living and working near the line to commute via Segway and light rail for a serious urban lifestyle. Who knows, maybe we will start seeing a bunch of them around!
Remember, Rail Life has a Phoenix Light Rail Group on Flickr. Basically, we want to share some of our pictures from the community and allow people to add their pics (or videos), as well. These can be light rail related, but we also want pics of your favorite spot, restaurant, sports team, community, event etc.
Good going, Nick! I still have yet to ride one of those, but they look so fun. Do you know if Metro will allow those on the trains?
The Segways are fun to ride! I’m sure those will be a hit along Tempe Town Lake!
Ed, the lady at Segway told me they have talked to Metro and that they would be allowed.
Tony, you need one of theses! Car-free doesn’t mean you can’t have a Segway! 🙂
I also got the okay on these from Valley Metro – http://www.edwardjensen.net/2009/06/30/segways-and-the-metro/
Great stuff Ed. Thanks for sharing. Let us know if you pick one up. Actually, I spoke with the owner of the dealer at Tempe Segway and they are considering a promotion to Metro riders. Let me know if I can help put you in contact with him.
