The Train Tracks is another great addition to our growing arts and entertainment community. Each week, a different artist boards the light rail to perform a series of songs taped by the guys at Inside Creative Minds to take a shot at being voted as the best act of the quarter. I believe voting for the quarters is May, August, November and February 10th with the most popular band of the year going on to the 2010 Tempe Music Festival.
So far, 7 artists have performed since early February and each performance is available for viewing via the train tracks web site. This past Friday I watched the band Andrew Jackson Jihad perform on the light rail and had a blast. I'll try to add to our collection of Rail Life pictures of the Train Tracks in the weeks to come.
On Fridays, the band performing for the week meets at the Central and Camelback station and heads south at approximately 5:00 to begin playing. The 5:00 time frame may change slightly throughout the year due to lighting issues etc. You can follow Kimber Lanning on Twitter to get the latest updates and information. I'll try to send updates from the Rail Life twitter page as I get them as well. Artists wishing to enter can submit their applications for review and must perform their acoustic sets while being filmed on the light rail cars.
If you enjoy watching live music, I suggest you check out what these cool people are doing. As our community and light rail system evolves, I'm sure there will be many more fun and interesting things to do on and near the line. Stick around because we plan to be there to share the info and the fun with you!
