Looking for a few fun things to do along the light rail corridor this weekend? These three things might be of interest.
1. The Downtown Phoenix Public Market is a great way to start a Saturday morning. If taking light rail, you can exit the Central / Roosevelt or the Central / Van Buren stops to the SE corner of Central and McKinley. Take a look at our light rail map for easy directions. At the market this weekend, you can learn what to do in your garden in April. Check their site for more details or click here for other great stuff going on at the market.
2. The 6th annual Arizona Dragon Boat Festival at Tempe Town Lake sounds like a fun time. According to their web site, 76 teams will gather on the North side of the lake March 28th and 29th to compete in the race. To be honest, I have no idea what a Dragon Boat race is but I just might take a trip to Tempe Town Lake to check it out! The Center Parkway / Washington station isn’t far from the north side of the lake but I think spectators will find it more fun and convenient to view the event from Tempe Beach Park which is easily accessed from the Mill Ave / Third Street station.
3. The Tempe Festival of the Arts is always a great way to spend a day! Don’t miss more than 450 artisan booths lining the streets of the Mill Avenue District this weekend. Also check out the Arizona Wine Festival on 7th Street, where a record 10 local wineries are participating this year and offering tastings, while also selling wines by the glass and/or bottle. The main festival is free to attend but the wine festival is $10 for 6 tastings and a commemorative wine glass. Also featured on 7th Street will be the best in local Jazz performers on the Festival Jazz Stage. The Spring Tempe Festival of the Arts is March 27th, 28th, and 29th from 10:00 AM until Dusk.
Because of events like the Dragon Boat Festival and the Festival of the Arts, the week of March 27th to April 4th has been officially declared Tempe Arts & Entertainment week. Capping off the week we will all be treated to the 2009 Circle K Tempe Music Festival on April 3 & 4, featuring some amazing acts. Getting to the music fest will be a breeze if taking light rail. More on the music fest in the very near future. For now, start planning your weekend!
There is a lot of cool stuff going on if Your Life Is On The Line.
