Mesa is kicking off the grand opening of the Light Rail line with a large celebration titled "It All Starts Here" located at the Sycamore / Main Street Station and Park and Ride lot. The event is sponsored by SRP and the Mesa Convention and Visitors Bureau. There will be a ceremony at 9:40 a.m. where Mesa Mayor Scott Smith and Metro Light Rail CEO Rick Simonetta will speak. The first 500 people to arrive at the ceremony will receive a free commemorative t-shirt. There will be a variety of food, entertainment and information available for all. FREE Metro Light Rail rides will begin at 10:00 a.m.

Good Morning Arizona will be doing a live weather broadcast in the morning.
Kids Zone featuring a bounce house, obstacle course and a game truck.
9:30 a.m. – First Train Arrives with Mayor Smith etc.
9:40 a.m. – Opening ceremony begins.
10:00 a.m. – Trains begin running for (FREE) public rides.
10:00 a.m – SRP's "Second Shift" band begins
12:30 p.m. – Rock Lobster performs
2:00 p.m. – The Chadwick's perform
3:30 p.m. – Headlining band Grand Funk Railroad performs
Parking is available at the Mesa park and ride lot which is off of Sycamore. People are also encouraged to utilize the new Metro Link bus system. Please note, the Westbound lane of Main Street will be closed to traffic. Security and Metro ambassador's will be located along the entire line.
