Last week, Mayor Gordon along with Kimber Lanning of Local First Arizona and several others held a press conference at the light rail stop at Central Ave / Washington Street to promote "Buy Local Week." According to Local First’s web site; "When you shop at a locally owned business, 45 cents of every dollar stays in Arizona – versus only 13 cents of every dollar spent at a national chain!" Mayor Gordon spoke about the many benefits for the local economy as well.
Local First has also put together some information to give you some great shopping ideas from local merchants and a map to their locations. Here at RailLife.com, we are strong supporters of locally owned businesses. Many small business owners along the light rail line have been through some very challenging times in the past. Now that construction is complete and the roads are back in order, it is time to utilize some of the many resources we have available along the line.
Check out this short video where Kimber Lanning talks about what it means to buy local… Kimber mentions that it is economically important, environmentally important and culturally important. There will be several events coinciding with Buy Local Week at places like the Downtown Phoenix Public Market and Roosevelt Row. One of their themes is "Keep your money where your home is." That is especially true when, "Your Life Is On The Line!"
