At last weeks "Valley Forward" lunch, we got a chance to hear a lot of really good information about Metro's Light Rail system. The main reason for most attending the lunch wasn't really the speakers, heck it wasn't even the $50.00 piece of lasagna. We wanted a chance to ride in one of the light rail cars. And ride we did… The lunch was held at the Tempe Mission Palm's Hotel which was close enough for us to walk to the light rail stop at 3rd St / Mill Avenue where a light rail car was waiting. The trip took us from Tempe, over the bridge and then in to Phoenix where we stopped and turned around at the 44th St / Washington station. I have been fortunate to take a few test rides in the past but have never taken one of this length, speed or had an opportunity to cross the bridge. I really enjoyed the trip and would like to thank Metro's CEO Rick Simonetta for making himself available to answer questions about the system. December is going to be here before we know it and I can't wait to ride more often! I took the enclosed video while we were returning from Phoenix, back to Tempe. (Thanks to those people that left nice coments on our Flickr page about the bridge video!)
Rail Life has a "Phoenix Light Rail Group on Flickr." Basically, we want to share some of our pictures from the community and to allow people to add their pics (or videos) as well. These can be light rail related but we also want a favorite spot, restaurant, sports team, community etc.
On Sunday morning, we choose a "light rail pic of the week" and share it with everyone. Each week, new pictures will be added to the group and I will pick a favorite to post on the blog along with a brief description. If you add something to the group prior to Saturday afternoon, your picture will be eligible.
