Recently, I have had some interesting conversations with people concerning Metro's hours of service. The current plan is for the light rail cars to quit running at midnight. Not exactly everyone's first choice. (more on that soon!)
At yesterdays "Valley Forward" lunch, we got to hear some really interesting stuff about Metro from CEO Rick Simonetta, Tempe Mayor Hugh Hallman, Councilman Tom Simplott and others. After their presentations, there was a Q & A session where I took the opportunity to ask if the trains would run past midnight on New Year's Eve. Mr. Simonetta said that the trains would be running later that evening and that they would run until about 3 am. Good answer, considering the tens of thousands that will be out way past midnight that night. Metro has a great opportunity to introduce people to the system that might not use it on a regular basis. It is an even better answer given the fact that people will be able to ride for FREE until service begins January 1st.
No, I don't think they will turn on the meter at midnight, probably the next morning when service continues.
So, what do ya' think? Will you take the train on New Year's Eve? You can't beat the price and it might be fun! Let us know…
