The AZ Republic and Metro are looking for a slogan to remind people not to be stupid near light rail trains. Well, they say they are looking for "a slogan that will remind people to be careful around trains, avoid stopping on the tracks and obey all traffic signals."
Two different people mentioned light rail safety and awareness to me yesterday. Hopefully, these last 106 days before the light rail trains begin to run will be used to get the word out. Downtown Phoenix, near Washington and Central/First Avenues would be just one area of concern. People cross the streets without thinking twice sometimes.
A recent article says you just need to "come up with the best slogan to promote light rail safety and Metro will let you ride free for all of 2009." So, put your creative thinking cap on and come up with something good! Contest Rules: Entries are due Sept. 30. E-mail casey.newton@arizonarepublic.com with "Light rail slogan" in the subject line. Include your first and last name and a daytime phone number. You can also call (602) 444-2471. Entries left in the comments will not be considered. In cases where multiple people suggest the same slogan, the first person to suggest it will be eligible for the prize. Contest rules are subject to clarification or revision.

*Update: So far, my entry has been, "Be Aware, Trains Don’t Share!" I hope people use common sense and stay off the tracks.
