Sounds like the safety awareness campaigns are beginning to intensify in Tempe. Quoting an AZ Republic article about fines for light rail violations,
"Roger Austin, a Tempe police light-rail liaison, said the goal is to ensure the public knows there are ordinances to help prevent light-rail accidents and that trains are being tested on the 20-mile track running from Phoenix through Tempe and about a mile into Mesa."
I find it interesting that the fines are listed at $50.00 instead of the $150.00 mentioned in the past. Not sure if the ordinance was changed or if they are talking about a different type of violation. Either way, it is best to stay off the track and to obey the signs. Common sense will go a long way in keeping you safe and free from any potential run in with the law. Metro has a light rail safety page to review if you want some info from them. If you live, work or play along the line it is time to begin paying attention to the cars. Seriously, it would be a major drag to get hit by one of these trains! At over 100,000 pounds, it will probably leave a mark. 🙂
