Thanks to our friend, Michael Monti for posting this info concerning the next rounds of testing..
Subject: Live-wire test on expanded test track – Monday, June 9
Hello our ASU and Tempe colleagues-
As a heads up, we are planning to expand the vehicle test track to the Mesa end of line in late June. In order to do so, we have to conduct a sequence of preliminary tests on the newly impacted track area (from the Mill Avenue pocket track (just behind Mission Palms Hotel) to Main and Sycamore in Mesa) to verify system performance and ability to move trains safely.
Beginning Monday, June 9, the electrical lines will be energized and a train will enter this area for the first time. We will conduct the first live-wire test with the train at walking speed. METRO Operations is working with the Tempe, Mesa and ASU police departments to determine the level of police presence during these initial tests.
In the following few weeks, the trains will be out sporadically completing certain testing requirements on this portion of track. Once requirements are met (end of June), we can begin more regular and dynamic testing on this newly expanded test track from 26th Street and Washington to Main and Sycamore.
Please help us pass along this information. As well, please keep in mind, we have plenty of light rail safety materials that we’d be more than happy to make available to you and your team/staff/colleagues or any group you think needs to be made more aware.
Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Hillary Foose
