I came across this video tonight featuring the grand opening of the "LYNX" light rail line in Charlotte which shows a long line of people waiting to ride the train on opening day. This reminded me of a recent transportation committee meeting I attended where we discussed the grand opening weekend of our Phoenix light rail system. Metro, along with the cities of Phoenix, Tempe and Mesa, anticipate a very large turn out for the opening weekend. Hopefully, they can all work together on something to make this day a huge success. The cars will be running free of charge, there will be parties, music, give aways and even shuttle busses to handle any over flow. Provided the schedule remains the same, light rail will begin running the streets the weekend of December 27th. I believe there will be a TON of people wanting to be on board for this "historic" event. You can bet the media coverage will be pretty intense as anything mentioning light rail is sure to be a story now that we are getting closer to the grand opening. Of course, Rail Life will be there, we have already begun discussing some options with local business owners because we know this will be an event not to miss! If you are a business owner near the light rail line, feel free to contact us for some of the scoop on the big day. Stick around, we will have more info on the grand opening as well as other events planned in celebration of "milestones" along the way. I have asked a few people at Metro to keep us posted. If they are kind enough to do so, I'll let ya know.. This is going to be a fun time for Arizona. Soon, we can say that, "Your Life is on the Line!"
