Delays Possible As Occupy Phoenix Takes To Light Rail

November 16, 2011 by Nick Bastian 4 Comments

If you commute to work, school or play via the light rail, you are probably rooted soundly in the 99%. Lucky for you, the  Occupy Phoenix folks have decided to make your Thursday morning ride a bit more interesting.

According to a recent AZCentral article titled “Occupy Phoenix to protest on light rail Thursday,” there will be demonstrators boarding the light rail trains at the Sycamore and Main, Washington and Central, and at the 19th Avenue and Montebello stations. Apparently, the goal is to “hit rush hour traffic” in the morning before the big flash mob in downtown Phoenix later in the day. Yeah, that’ll show em’ on Wall Street.

If you are going to join the Occupy Phoenix group on the light rail on Thursday, you’ll want to think about purchasing a light rail pass before you board. Well, unless you think it’s not fair for “them” to make you pay to ride.

Here’s an idea, keep your money from the light rail fare and go occupy a LOCALLY OWNED coffee shop. Maybe a locally owned grocery store or a donut shop. I get the desire for demonstrations, but shifting the way you shop, the way you live, and the way you act seems to be a good way to make a big difference, too.

So, if you are an Occupier looking to find the latest and greatest spot to protest, you can use this light rail map to find the above-mentioned stations.

Have fun, try not to Occupy Sheriff Joe’s place. It’s probably not as much fun as a walk in the park…

I understand the warning about delays, but it’s wrong to classify the Occupy people as freeloaders.

Was never meant as an attempt to classify anyone as a freeloader. None, at all.
Same as the warning of possible delays, it was to let people know of possible fare increases. If you follow the “pay to ride” link, the info is there.

People want to feel like they are part of something bigger than themselves, especially in times such as these when the sources of discontent are so amorphous. Alienated populace + lack of readily identifiable evil mastermind = occupy light rail. God bless their disillusioned hearts, misdirected as each offbeat may be.

But those flashmob people are just weird.
