** Update: Yes, this was an April Fools Day post. Thanks for playing along! 🙂 **
It’s been a long time coming but the latest news out of Washington indicates that METRO will finally be able to fast-track some of the highly anticipated improvements and line extensions to the very successful Phoenix light rail system.
You may have seen a lot of talk from the Republic’s Sean Holstege, East Valley Tribune’s Garin Groff and METRO themselves about the recent visit from FTA chief Peter Rogoff.
Apparently, Rogoff likes what he sees in the highly successful AZ Transit system and has decided to release $936,421,677.00 in the next three months to speed up the planned extensions for our light rail system and to help add some of the things passengers have been hoping for.
Free Wi-Fi service will soon be added to all trains in the fleet along with state of the art tracking systems which will allow an “increasingly mobile” society the ability to track the exact location of trains as they near a station. “These two improvements alone will increase the convenience factor of passengers riding the trains and will, in turn, increase ridership numbers enough for the systems to be financially self sufficient by the end of our fiscal year. It is imperative that we build upon the success of the METRO light rail line in the Phoenix Metropolitan area.”
In addition to the line extensions for Mesa, Tempe and Phoenix, an additional $732,344,591.00 will be available for Scottsdale to begin their extension through the heart of that wonderful city. “It’s exciting to finally be able to get tourists to and from Old Town Scottsdale as we have long targeted this region as a major player in the economic development portion of the great state of Arizona.”
Watch for more breaking news from President Obama’s address this weekend.
Hang on to your hat’s, Phoenix. It’s gonna get interesting around here, real quick.
Wouldn’t it be nice if….!
Nick,
I agree with Dru! This would be cool if…
But why does everyone forget about CHANDLER?
