According to our friends at the City of Tempe, they will be hosting a free classic car show with food, music and cars. The event is titled the "Tempe Parking Classic." and will feature the new parking garage east of Mill Avenue at 5th street which is conveniently located near the light rail stations at 5th Street and College and at third street and Mill Avenue. These areas are a hot bed of activity and are extremely convenient to get to from anywhere along the light rail line.
Tempe Parking Classic brings classic cars to new garage: 1,700 new spaces coming to Mill Avenue.
The official ribbon cutting for the garage will take place on Friday, March 13 at 4 p.m. The car show itself is Saturday the 14th from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Come Back Buddy, a Buddy Holly tribute band, will play from noon – 3 p.m. on Saturday. Food will be available for purchase and guests may browse information booths on transportation and development. The car show will take place on the roof level of the garage. If you are attending the show and not riding light rail to get there, you will be welcome to park for free in the remaining levels of the garage.
Parking in downtown Tempe becomes more convenient with the opening of the new 400-space parking garage right in the middle of the Mill Avenue District at Fifth Street just east of Mill Avenue at Forest and spanning the distance to Sixth Street.
Clubs showing cars at the event include the Tempe Nuevo Club, the Shriners and many individual car enthusiasts. The City is looking for car buffs who would like to display their vehicles on March 14 from 9 a.m. -6 p.m. Space is available for up to 50 classic vehicles. Submit a low resolution jpg photo of your car and contact information to business@tempe.gov to be a part of the fun. It's free to attend and free to show your vehicle.
With the opening of this garage as well as the forthcoming US Airways garage at Third Street and Mill, there are nearly 12,000 parking spaces available in downtown Tempe. These two garages will add 1,700 spaces to the city’s parking inventory. For a map of all of Tempe’s existing parking garages, visit www.tempe.gov/parking.
