Public meetings set to discuss METRO’s I-10 West future corridor project
PHOENIX — Public meetings are scheduled to give a project update and share the latest analysis of METRO’s I-10 West high capacity transit corridor study.
The I-10 West transit corridor project is examining the potential for a light rail or bus rapid transit service connection to the WestValley. Considerations being evaluated include how to connect this transit corridor with the 20-mile light rail starter line, station and park-and-ride locations and the transit mode that best meets the mobility and other needs of this area.
METRO plans to use the 50’ median of I-10 West between I-17 and 83rd Avenue for this transit service. Several routes east of I-17 are still being evaluated for their connection to the State Capitol and downtown Phoenix.
Over the past several months, analysis has been conducted for the various options on capital cost, travel demand, land use compatibility, connectivity to the regional transit network, potential economic development opportunities, environmental factors and other components. METRO and City of Phoenix staff will be on-hand to review the project’s status, listen to comments and answer questions.
