PHOENIX — This fall, public meetings are scheduled for METRO’s Central Mesa, I-10 West and Tempe South future corridor projects. Each of these projects is in the “Tier 2” or detailed analysis phase and results of this research will be revealed at the upcoming meetings.
METRO and its city partners are committed to ensuring public participation in the development of future high-capacity transit projects for this region. Public input and attendance at these meetings are key to identifying which transit mode and alignment best meet the transportation needs of the corridor and community.
In Tier 2, the Tier 1 alternatives are further studied, with analysis including an evaluation of capital cost, travel demand, connectivity to the regional transit network, potential economic development opportunities and other components.
The meeting dates and locations are:
Central Mesa Public Meeting:
Tuesday, October 14, 2008
6 – 8 p.m.
East Valley Institute of Technology, Bldg. 14 Auditorium
1601 W. Main St., Mesa
The Central Mesa project team is currently evaluating the potential for extending high-capacity transit on Main Street, 1st Street or 1st Avenue from light rail’s end of line at Main Street and Sycamore. The team is also evaluating whether light rail or bus rapid transit would be a better fit for this area.
I-10 West Public Meetings:
Thursday, November 6, 2008
5 – 7 p.m.
University Park, Safe Haven Room
1002 W. Van Buren St., Phoenix
Thursday, November 13, 2008
5 – 7 p.m.
Carpenter's UnionTrainingCenter
4547 W. McDowell Rd., Phoenix
The I-10 West extension would provide a high-capacity transit service connection to the WestValley. Considerations being evaluated include how to connect this extension with the light rail starter line, station and park-and-ride locations and the transit mode that best meets the mobility and other needs of this corridor (light rail or bus rapid transit). METRO plans to use the 50’ median of I-10 West between 27th and 83rd Avenues for this extension’s transit service.
Tempe South Public Meetings:
Tuesday, December 9, 2008
6 – 8 p.m.
Desert Breeze Substation
251 N. Desert Breeze Blvd., Chandler
Wednesday, December 10, 2008
6 – 8 p.m.
Tempe Public Library
3005 S. Rural Rd., Tempe
The Tempe South project team is evaluating potential routes and transit modes that will provide greater connection to Tempe, Chandler and the light rail starter line. Several routes are still on the table for evaluation as well as several transit modes, including bus rapid transit, light rail, modern streetcar and commuter rail.
