I took this pic a few weeks ago when I was down by Tempe Town Lake with my kids. Yesterday, I was reminded about it when talking to my cousin who lives in Chicago. Interestingly enough, it was a gorgeous day in Tempe today. High 70’s with plenty of sunshine and a nice breeze is hard to beat. In Chicago? Scattered snow flurries, probably a bit chilly on the lake.

Go on out and enjoy the weather. Take a walk, rent a boat, have some fun.. If you live near the light rail line, just exit at the Mill Avenue station and head North to the lake. Easy as pie…

Around here, we like to keep things a little social. In fact, I’ve met some seriously awesome people through social media over the past few years.

While many have heard of the Twitter prowess that is Jeff Moriarty, and social media powerhouses like Pete Cashmore from Mashable, there is an even more constant roar in Tyler Hurst.

While Tyler is a bit shy, he has agreed to a tweet-up and I found a great happy hour spot for this coming week. Yes, it is light rail friendly, and yes, you are invited. This building along the light rail line in Tempe has become a popular spot, and it’s location is pretty darn convenient for ASU students and for people wanting to live car-free. Prior to the opening of the light rail line in 2008, Equinox was to be prime housing near ASU. In fact, I took this pic in the Summer of 2008, several months before the trains began running along Apache. One year later, in August of 2009, residents began moving into this building that had already been re-named.

The growing bicycle enthusiast crowd in the Phoenix / Tempe area is basking in the glow of another very successful Tour De Fat that was held yesterday in Tempe. If, like me, you weren’t able to attend this year, you missed out on a fun filled day and you should already be marking your calendar for next years Tour.

For at least one bike riding enthusiast, the 2011 Tour De Fat was an opportunity to say she is leaving the car behind. I’ve followed Nicole on Twitter to keep up with how it all goes, you should too…

ASU has another big game this coming Saturday as they take on the Ducks in Oregon. A win here would be HUGE for the Devils 2011 season.

The 7:15PM game will be shown on ESPN with the “College GameDay” crew in Eugene for the big showdown. The 9th ranked Ducks will be a huge challenge for the Devils on the road but the taste of victory will be oh, so sweet…

So, last nights ASU football game wasn’t the best performance of the year but it was a W and that’s what really counts. As I headed to the game, I snapped this weeks pic while standing at the McClintock and Apache light rail station. Heck, when you have 20 minutes between trains, a $2.00 Corona from the Tempe Tavern might not hurt. :) Of course, they have that special during all football games as well as $3.00 Bloody Mary’s on Sunday for NFL fans.

Next up for the Devil’s is an away game against Utah which is a huge game if they want to continue to compete for the first Pac-12 Championship. We are fortunate to have a TON of great places along the line to watch the games.
