Metro light rail ridership numbers – March 2010

by Rail Life on April 9, 2010

In March, METRO had highest light rail ridership since opening with 1,161,733 boardings with the first week averaging 40,000+ EACH day. One interesting thing to note is the fact that  ridership from Jan-Mar 2010 was over 10% greater than Jan-Mar of 09. In fact, March of 2010 was 19% higher than March of 2009.  Back in December, I wondered how this year would compare to last years ridership numbers as many people had talked about the success of the first few months of the light rail numbers might be tied to a “curiosity factor.” Sounds like people are still curious, don’t ya’ think?

Here is what we saw for march of 2010:

Total Ridership: 1,161,733

Average weekday ridership: 41,413

Average Saturday ridership: 31,938

Average Sunday/Holiday ridership 20,373

ASU continues to be a big part in the numbers as the summer months and the December holiday break proved the numbers don’t always ride. Overall, it is hard to argue with the fact that people are rockin’ the Rail Life
