Let’s turn this thing GREEN

by Rail Life on March 15, 2010

Green, it means a lot of different things to a lot of different people. To the Gordon Gekko’s of the world, it’s all about the cash, to many “transportation geeks,” it’s about a lifestyle and to millions of others, it’s about corned beef hash and a frosty mug on St Paddy’s Day!

No matter what your deal is, this Wednesday is Saint Patricks Day and it is a great excuse to get your green on! Along the light rail, we have a bunch of great places to celebrate like a true Irishman. ( or Irishwoman)

In Phoenix and in Tempe, they have awesome places to get your green on… I’ll pick a couple of my favorites from each city.

Seamus McCaffrey’s Irish Pub and Restaurant

18 W. Monroe, Phoenix

Closest station: Van Buren/Central Ave, Van Buren/ 1st Avenue

www.seamusmccaffreys.com

The Turf Irish Pub and Restaurant

705 N. 1st Street, Phoenix

Closest station: Roosevelt/Central Avenue

Rula Bula

401 S Mill Ave, Tempe

Closest station: Mill Avenue/Third Street

Robbie Fox’s Public House

640 S Mill Ave, Tempe

Closest station: Mill Avenue/Third Street

If you are a new light rail rider, our Phoenix light rail map and park and ride information might make your trip a bit easier.

Seriously, you can’t go wrong with any of the above choices. We have a bunch of other stuff going on and I hope some people will leave some more ideas below. As the new kid on the block, Robbie Fox’s Public House Tempe is one that some of you may not be familiar with, but I can tell ya’ for sure that they will be rockin’ the house like CRAZY. Listen to and watch this video I shot with Robbie explaining some of the things they have going on for St Paddy’s Day in Tempe. They may be new, but they are doing great. I have tried the place a couple of times and enjoy it a LOT.

My day will be pretty full starting at a Tempe Chamber of Commerce meeting with Jack Smith in the morning, but he has promised some green eggs and ham for his committee members. :-) After work, my favorite Irish friend Shane Hollenback has promised to teach me how to find the “luck of the Irish.” That should be interesting!

Have fun, be green, stay safe and rock the Rail Life!

Nick,

Great post! I woke up this morning in a great mood, because it’s going to be a great week. There are going to be some great celebrations all over the valley, but the four you listed along the rail line are outstanding. …and we get to crawl them all… thanks to Metro!

Slainte!
