Night Rail

by Rail Life on July 25, 2009

Metro stepped up and extended the hours for light rail, so now it’s our turn to show them it was a great decision!  Introducing Night Rail, July 31st!

If you are a fan of the extended light rail hours, a friend of business owners along the line or just a fan of having fun, join us for Night Rail. Several groups will be getting together along the line throughout the evening and then meeting at the Roosevelt Station at midnight to show support for the extended hours. After midnight, we will head to a couple of nearby places before calling it a night.

You can join our friends at “Light Rail Friday Night” who will be meeting at Rula Bula on Mill from 6-9 pm. After that, people will be meeting (10:00 pm) at Monti’s and at Maizie’s, which is just south of the light rail station at Central and Camelback.

Since the new hours are being tested on a trial basis, it is very important for people to be aware of the change and to take advantage of the hours so they don’t go away. You know, the “Use it or lose it” mentality.

I mentioned in the Use it or Lose it post, “My thought, so far, is to talk with Local First Arizona, the Downtown Phoenix Journal, CenPho TV, the Mill Avenue District, the Kyle Moyer Agency, Downtown Voices Coalition, Radiate Phoenix, local bloggers and others.” Turns out, people have stepped up, big time, to help raise awareness and to get people out next weekend, July 31st forNight Rail.”

Business owners let us know how you want to be involved!  If you have ideas, or if you are a blogger writing about Night Rail, please let me know that as well.

I’ll update this post as I hear of more happenings. You might also want to follow RailLife, CenPhoTV, No Festival required, Light Rail Beer, Get Your PHX and LocalFirstAZ on Twitter for updates and ideas. Another option is to follow the #NightRail feed for details…

See you at Night Rail!

The Lucky Devil Bar & Grill has a great local band playing on Friday July 31st. Voodoo Swing is a popular 50’s rock-a-billy band. They are always a good time. We are located ½ a block East of the Dorsey Light Rail Stop in Tempe.

Thursday July 30th – 50 Cent Ladies Night With Karaoke 8pm-Midnight
Friday July 31st – Live Music Voodoo Swing 10pm-Close
Saturday August 1st – Karaoke 10pm-Close

I’ll be with the charming Dave Brookhauser and lovely Jacqui Johnson and we plan to let folks know where we are as we travel. If you find us, I’ll have passes to the next days screening of Selections from the Rural Route Film Festival, a $25. value NFR Sponsor Card and several dvds all to give away.

Will def check out Downtown Civic Space, Tempe/Phoenix Light Rail Bridge overlook(coolest public art in town), Rula Bula, Carlys, maybe The District, definitely Hannys at midnight! Come join us!

Check out Cheuvront Restaurant & Wine Bar during the Night Rail. They stay open til midnight on the weekends and always is a favorite place for me to stop by for a nice glass of wine. And you can't beat their reverse happy hour from 10 til midnight. The restaurant is only about 100 feet away from the McDowell/ Central Avfe station. You just might see me there this weekend!

Well, I did a LOT less than I thought I would but still had an excellent time and rode Night Rail! Seemed like a lot of cops around, that's ok, we aren't dangerous!

A rough count of 60 people showed up at midnight at the Roosevelt Station. Pics were taken, high fives exchanged and then on to Carlys for John Daly's(lemonade, ice tea, vodka). Immediately doubled the capacity.

Think of the fact that those 60 people probably dropped at least $20 on the night, certainly many double that. Places some had never been to before were seen, new light rail riders, a wake-up call and hopefully give some confidence to late night rail.

Thanks Valley Metro, Thanks City Council subcommittee, Thanks Meto and everyone who came and participated. Let's do it again!

Hi, I'm new to your blog and am definately finding it interesting. We're planning a nightrail pub crawl for a friend's birthday and would love some suggestions of cool bars to stop at. We're looking for places that are appx 1-2 blocks from rail stops and they have to be super cool, dive bars are OK but we'd like a couple of nice spots too. Any ideas would be toally appreciated. Thank you!
