Light Rail travel times – un-official numbers

by Rail Life on February 16, 2009

We get calls and emails about the light rail schedules and travel times quite often. I believe the timing varies slightly depending on driver, passenger loads and even time of day. My last travel time update was pretty consistent with my most recent one. Today, I traveled the entire route, from the Sycamore and Main Street station to 19th Avenue and Montebello in approximately 1 hour and 8 minutes. To me, this time is within a reasonable give / take from earlier estimates from Metro. Below are some of the *approximate* times I left each station after boarding and leaving Sycamore at approximately 1:06 p.m.

Leave Sycamore / Main Station 1:06 p.m.

Leave McClintock / Apache Station 1:12 p.m.

Leave Mill Ave / 3rd St Station 1:22 p.m.

Leave Priest / Washington Station 1:27 p.m.

Leave 44th / Washington Station 1:31 p.m.

Leave 3rd St / Washington Station 1:45 p.m.

Leave Roosevelt / Central Station 1:51 p.m.

Leave Thomas / Central Station 1:56 p.m

Leave Campbell / Central Station 2:02 p.m.

Leave Central / Camelback Station 2:04 p.m.

Leave 19th Ave / Camelback Station 2:10

Arrive at Montebello / 19th Ave Station 2:14

Please note: These travel times are approximate and not official numbers from Metro. I simply looked at the time on my cell phone as I left each light rail station. Obviously, they can vary and can be off slightly. This is intended as an approximate guide only.

I hope you find this useful.. We’ll update different light rail stops and times in the future because we know… “Your Life Is On The Line!”

Great experiment, Nick. I’ve found that the time points on METRO’s unofficial schedule seem to be pretty accurate. For instance, SB/EB trains depart Encanto/Central on the 7′s during peak travel times, which is what the schedule says.

I wonder if at some point, someone should live-Tweet their journey along the line…

Thanks Ed… It appears Metro is doing a pretty good job with most things.
The “live tweeting” sounds kind of fun. maybe a few of us should get together and start at opposite ends, really confuse people. :-)
